    I would add the 126 420SEL. I have one with a few mods (brakes/suspensio/wheels/tires) and it is a wonderful driving car without the complexity and expense of the 560s hydropneumatic suspension. Again, just make sure you get one with the "dry" suspension; Konis are relatively cheap; new spheres are NOT! Also try to find one with the 228bhp engine. Prices for these are going up, but still not approaching 560s. LOT of car for the money.

    Hi I have a 1991 Mercedes 230E And the problem is the gear selector doesn't select any gear. I took it to the shop and changed the valve body and solved my problem After a week same issue happened! Then changed the valve body (again) and it worked for a minute then it went back Can you please help me

    I am adding 1oz. two cycle oil per 5 gallons of gas in my 1990 300TE per your recommendation, my ratio might be a little different. My question is 'I have a habit of shifting into neutral at a stope, is that a good practice and are there lubrication points on the linkage I should be concerned with?'

    I have a 1989 560 sel blower motor works when tested ! Fuses are good! But blower motor will not turn on with switches. Any ideas?

    I have a problem with the car idling after warm-up. No trouble starting but once it begins to warm-up the idle speed drops. When warm it won't idle and runs rough. I am looking at the warmup regulator. Could this be a crack in hose /air leak or the regulator itself. From the normal idle and no problems, each time I started it, the idle speed went down a few 100 rpm when warm and finally it would not idle at all and there is some backfiring. Any ideas?

    I have an ‘83 380 SEC, 130,000 mi, I was having erratic idling issues, poor gas mileage & lack of power, my mechanic is in the process of replacing the fuel accumulator, idle air valve & warm up regulator. Hopefully this will resolve the problems. Hard to find parts and 4 hrs labor $1,700 total! I enjoy your videos it gives my info so I understand the mechanic

    At 17 in 1976 I bought a 62 300SE from a guy for $900. He cried because he didn’t want to sell. It needed rear air springs and rust repair. Owned and maintained that car for over 20 years. Now I want another but the next generation not the fintail.

    I never buy plugs from mercedes for my 1985 380sl, and after 60,000 miles, still getting 24mpg... using the NGK BP5ES, I'm on the 2nd set after 10yrs and 20,000 miles (got the car 10yrs ago with 40,000 miles on the clock... granted, its a hotter plug vs the BP6es, But I have cut the belt going to aux air, advanced timing 1degree, no cat & plugged the exhaust ports leading into the intake, per Mercedes shop manual procedure, use a tapered 6mm dowel going into hole...

    In my opinion, the 500 is a nicer car to drive than the 560 (Euro spec). Not quite as powerful, but much more nimble and lively.

    I started with my 1987 560SEC exactly the way you recommend, just keeping it analog and stock concerning engine and transmission. My first violation was a standalone electrical fan cooling system. Then, I put an 722.6 transmission with Ole aftermarket ecu in, which is very easy to configure, flexible, very little changes to the car, and makes the car clearly more fun to drive than with the old 4-speed auto. My next project is to swap the m119 in, but I actually prefer the later version with electronic fuel injection, with aftermarket ecu (MAXXecu), and aftermarket electronic throttle body. I will keep the rest analog, so just the engine control will be MAXXecu, which will make the car easier to tune. Yes, Mercedes won't be able to perform every job an this car, but this is not important to me and the change will be very little, as I will keep all analog sensors from the old engine in place that are needed for other functions to work properly. It will be a Frankenstein car, but a very nice one. Building an engine to 6 liter and putting turbo chargers in or other is as invasive as changing the engine electronics. There seems to be this stigma with Mercedes fans that changing anything mechanical is fine, but changing electronics is a crime. I believe people feel more confident with mechanical changes than with electronic ones, and software is naturally very abstract. But it give you the option to optimize things so easily and reliably. Mechanical fuel injection was great at its time, but it also has a lot of disadvantages as it is run by an ancient motor control system that is extremely inferior to a good modern truly free programmable aftermarket ecu. A 6 liter motor could also be called a Frankenstein motor. I am not saying that one is right or wrong, but I believe there is more than one way. naturally, one should attempt changes that they don't feel comfortable with. What I wouldn't do is changing the steering to rack and pinion to swap in am M113. That would be too much of a change to the character of the car (handling / driving). I also don't like the wide body AMG look. It is so outdated. The classic Mercedes lines are beautiful.

    The reason these particular wheels have inserts is purely because the alloy isn't suitable for supporting wheel bolts. You will see newer wheels that use a different alloy and also all forged oem mercedes wheels do not have inserts. Your opinion on aftermarket wheels is also slightly misguided, because one large factor in the design of oem wheels is cost. You can have a much more expensive, much better engineered aftermarket wheel. tl/dr: cast merc wheels garbage, forged merc wheels good, aftermarket wheels potentially good.

    The interior space in these compared to the exterior dimensions is unreal. I like how they're a little smaller than the W123, just the perfect size while still being spacious inside. I read somewhere they actually have the same interior room and cargo space as the W108/W109, just with a smaller exterior footprint. They are a packaging and engineering masterclass. Also the way the doors operate and shut is better than W123. They are jewels, and much more appreciated in Germany than in the US.

    OR! You could do what I did on my 606 and delete the vacuum pump 😁. Just need to install a vacuum reservoir, an electric pump, a vacuum switch, and do the plumbing. Works great, just make sure you don't have vacuum leaks. I used a GM part from a turbo vehicle. I posted it on the forums somewhere and got a fair amount of hate for it 🤣

    My 1993 W124 has the 722 auto transmission and it has a problem. It upshifts at around 2000rpm, but manually shifting it works fine, except it won't go from 1st to 2nd, and the shifter doesn't separate 1st & 2nd so I can't manually shift it between those gears. Both 1st & 2nd gears work, I can get into 2nd while moving slowly, or 1st by accelerating from a dead stop. When I manually shift the car into 3rd it goes into 3rd, and same with 4th (D). Could it be the bowden cable or something else?
